Happy faces Christmas Morning.....Santa knew how much Elena & Alex loved the go-kart owned by the kids next door and so in order to limit the arguments over whose turn it was decided to get Elena & Alex their very own go-kart.. in a different colour of course...!!! They love it.... Even though they have not been able to bring it outside yet:(
The 'Big Freeze' continues.... although we are all getting used to driving on dangerous roads with caution but...Christmas Day added a little more drama to all would-be motorists and those who planned to travel to visit family on the 25th....

At about 9am on Christmas Morning the lovely blue, clear frosty skies that we had just become accoustomed to began to cloud over and with it the rains came... with temperatures still well below zero, the rain immediately froze so that by the time we were all ready to leave for Mass and get in the car the challenge began.....
Darrelle walked out... and thankfully 'warned' us to be careful as she hit the ground with a thump...
We sat in our car at the gate and watched this car try repeatedly to get up the hill... and fail... It was a sheet of ice... Eventually, as they could not get the car to go in either direction they had to abandon it and walk home.....
Nobody, in our estate managed to make it to Mass on Christmas Day...
We also gave up and went back inside, somewhat disappointed as it looked like our plans for a family christmas were beginning to unravel....
Thankfully, as the morning wore on there was a slight thaw, enough to allow us to exit to the main road and although there were warnings on the radio to avoid travel in our county, we did make it......and managed to get a few photos enroute....Well, it is very picturesque... and not at all usual for our part of the world.....
The lake close to our house..... Just one of the many faces of our lake.... Many times since we have moved here I have vowed to compile a 'collection' of photos of the lake as it is so beautiful... sunsets, stormy days, bright, sunny..seasonal... it always grabs my attention.... always different...
Beautiful and all as it looks I am so ready to have the wintry weather behind us... first we were grounded by the floods, now the icy roads... Got my car back the day before Christmas Eve, over a month after abandoning it in the flood... Despite the new engine, and the new clutch.(?) it refused to start for Darrelle and I that evening when we decided to do a 'food shop' at 11pm ....??? And there it will sit until the 4th of January when the garage will open for business again.... What a bummer! So may get to do lots of blogging now as a way to avert 'cabin fever'... although with finding out that we have no cold water due to frozen pipes we are back to pre dishwasher days and is looking like we will be back to pre-washing machine days if it is not rectified soon!!! Ok, enough griping for now....they're only minor things in the great 'ol scheme of things!!
On a nicer note... we had a lovely day on Christmas Day... everybody together....Here are Lauren, Saoirse, Darrelle & Elena showing off the new bracelets given to them by Grandma Eileen and Grandad Albie
And the two small boys.. Odhrán & Alex.... No - the bottle is not theirs....

Boy............it is a sad day when Ireland has more frost and snow than Canada!! We have 0, a little snow on Christmas eve (sprinkling) and poured rain all Christmas - and here is Ireland under a deep freeze! You hear about Global warming - and climate change. When I first came to Canada in 1988 we would have snow on the ground from November to March......now it is not unusual to get our first dumping after the holidays in January......no where near as much as we used to get.
Love the pictures of the weather and over the holidays. The go kart is brilliant - I could see my two on that!
Our Orin is charmed to see another boy with the same name as him (admittedly spelt the proper Gaelic way no like us Anglasizing it!!) Tell us is he as much of a divil as our little man?

PS Heading to a big Irish get together with our friends for New Years eve in our friends the Lawlors up the road. Kilkenny, Waterford, Galway, Dublin, Glasgow, Belfast, Wexford and West Meath and Toronto will be represented, we are missing Limerick though......wanna come?:-)

The pictures are lovely. You could frame some of them or make a calendar for next year 'Between the floods and the frost' (sounds like the title for a book).
By the way, I went outside at lunch time and it's absolutely freezing here today, the wind is blowing as well and it was drawing the tears out of my eyes. Only for the salt in the tears I'd say they's have frozen shut.
It's -9 C (feels like -16 C with the wind chill)
Anyway stay warm and keep the wood pellets stocked up.
