In reference to the title.. no we have not stopped eating.!!!..:)))..
However, I was very taken with the following sculpture two weeks ago while we were waiting for the climbers to descend from 'The Reek'.... I had no idea that this fantastic sculpture was tucked away in this tiny Irish village...
It depicts a 'Coffin Ship' and commemorates the Great Irish Famine of 1845 - 1848 when millions of Irish people died when the potato crop failed... the staple food of the Irish way back then.... The population of Ireland dwindled from around 8 million down to about 4 million or less. To escape almost certain death a lot of people emigrated to America in roughly built ships and made the rough crossing across the Atlantic. Many died from hunger and sickness and disease during the crossing and their bodies were tossed overboard and hence the title 'Coffin ships'..
Of course many also did make it to the shores of America and went on to settle in the US and hence the huge Irish connections so many Americans have.....
