Getting there...

Am sure this is not going to be of the slightest interest to most people reading but wanted to record it anyway….it seems like such a long time since we had a proper holiday and after only a few hours sleep the excitement was palpable in our house at 12.30am when we woke the kids up to get dressed… Alex was awake and aware straightaway and ready for action, followed by Darrelle and then Elena….Declan and I had stayed up, kept company by Jo, who stayed to lock up and see out the rest of her weekend….after seeing us off….

Our almost 3 hour journey to Dublin was uneventful apart from a few stops enroute where Alex was feeling unwell…the excitement was enough to help him recover when we got to the airport….Our one bit of drama in Dublin airport was that I realized after going through security that I had left my phone in the Hertz car….. Declan kindly, without remonstrating with me at all!!! opted to go back to retrieve it, even though it meant waiting until some of the Hertz staff arrived to work at 5am to get the key back.. Meanwhile for the hour he was gone we ‘made’ cards for him to celebrate Father’s Day….Darrelle bought him a real cool hat for his holiday as a gift.., which we left behind us in Dublin airport…she was real disappointed when we realized  in Barcelona airport as I think she had designs on it for herself!  Don’t you just hate when that happens!
And so we made it to Barcelona…and taxied to the ship….It is eight years since we cruised and this is a first for the kids so we are really looking forward to it… Hope it can live up to all the hype!
Our first sighting of Voyager of the Seas!
When we arrived on ship to the sound of the grand piano it brought me right back to our last cruise 8 years ago… Albie, we miss you… you should have come….
We registered the kids for the onboard kids programme…. And they got a taste of what is to come… of course Elena volunteered for the science experiment…and got more than she bargained for…

Because we are more than a family of four we had to get a second stateroom… ensures sanity for all concerned…. have no wish to get a severe case of cabinfever!!!! So we have interconnecting cabins and it works very well, especially for excited little people who find it hard to wind down at night….They especially love their two beds……and did eventually go to sleep! Darrelle, very nicely gets the large queen size bed to herself!
Our stateroom attendent had left the towel folded in to the shape of a swan...(swong!) when we returned from dinner that night!!
A mighty relieved Alex!
'Dad, you are only joking... It's only a towel!!!!' Who was he trying to convince!!!
